Former Central Connecticut State University quarterback Jake Dolegala is headed back to New England after getting waived by the Green Bay Packers Tuesday, said NFL’s Ian Rapoport. The move was made Wednesday afternoon.
Dolegala spent most of last season on the Patriots’ practice squad before being cut after the Pats drafted Alabama standout Mac Jones in the first round of the NFL Draft. Dolegala then signed with Green Bay in June in the potential fall out of Rodgers and Green Bay’s front office.
Dolegala joins Jones, Cam Newton, Jarrett Stidham, and Brian Hoyer on their roster at quarterback, but head coach Bill Belichick has been keen on not naming a definite starter for Week 1.
Stidham is currently on the physically unable to perform list, which may have influenced the move to add Dolegala.
Dolegala entered the league with the Browns as a 2019 undrafted free agent after graduating from CCSU. He spent the year on the active roster, but never appeared in a regular season game.
