North Andover, MA – The CCSU women’s basketball team closed its road schedule on Saturday, and once again, it was the third quarter that doomed the Blue Devils.

CCSU was outscored 19-7 in the third and dropped a 56-46 decision to Merrimack after trailing by just four at the half. The Blue Devils outscored the Warriors 13-7 in the fourth, but the third-quarter slump was too much to overcome.

CCSU’s familiar third-quarter woes started right away, as Merrimack opened the second half with a 15-3 run to suddenly turn a close contest into a blowout, and the Blue Devils never recovered.

Ashley Berube led the Blue Devils with 14 points, 12 of them coming in the second half.

Both teams started out slow, combining to shoot 0-for-13 in the opening minutes, before CCSU’s bench provided the spark. Dejah Jenkins and Danielle Delano each chipped in four early points to keep the game tied entering the second, and led a trend that saw 26 of the Blue Devils’ 46 points scored from bench players.

CCSU closes its season next week with two home matches, hosting LIU on Monday and St. Francis Brooklyn on Thursday.
