CCSU baseball to face No 6 overall seed TCU in Fort Worth, Texas, in NCAA regional

In its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2010, the Central Connecticut State University baseball team face No. 6 overall seed TCU in Fort Worth, Texas, in its first game in the NCAA Regionals.

Virginia and Dallas Baptist are also in the Fort Worth regional, to be played at Lupton Baseball Stadium.

CCSU, 36-20 on the season, earned the automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament with its fifth NEC Tournament championship title, won on Sunday. NCAA pairings were released Monday afternoon.

The Blue Devils and Horned Frogs (42-16) will play on Friday at 9 p.m. The game will be available to stream on ESPN3. The Virginia Cavaliers (42-14) and Dallas Baptist Patriots (40-19) will play at 4 p.m. in the double-elimination regional format.

CCSU’s 36 wins are its most since winning a school-record 41 in 2004 under head coach Charlie Hickey. The Blue Devils have won more than 30 games in a season seven times under Hickey. In his 18th season at the helm of CCSU, Hickey won his 500th game at Central with Sunday’s victory in the NEC Championship game. The Blue Devils also won conference titles in 2002, 2003 and 2004.
