NEW BRITAIN - The Central Connecticut men’s basketball team tied the game three times late after trailing by 10 points in the fourth quarter but could not hold on, falling to Sacred Heart by a score of 64-62 at home on Thursday night.
The Blue Devils were down by double digits as late as 7:23 remaining in the fourth quarter but a surge, capped by a layup by Khalen Cumberlander, brought the score to 55-55. The score would be tied two more times in the final five minutes, as CCSU refused to fall to Sacred Heart.
Cumberlander forced the final tie score of the game, making a free throw with under a minute to go to make the score 62-62. But two made free throws by Sacred Heart’s Quincy McKnight gave the Pioneers the two-point lead that they would hold until the final horn.
