The Central Connecticut State basketball team was dominated on Tuesday night by Rutgers. The Blue Devils faced their toughest opponent yet in the Scarlet Knights and were not up to the task as they fell 79-37.
CCSU didn’t have a single player score in double-figures in the game and as a team it shot 25 percent from the field and 18 percent from three. The Blue Devils made just 14 field goals in the game, while Rutgers made 35 and the Scarlet Knights were that dominant in about every other stat as well.
Austin Nehls led CCSU with nine points while Tidell Pierre added six points and seven rebounds. Pierre was the only Blue Devil to shoot better than 50 percent from the field in the game as he made three of his four shots.
Rutgers was led by Nigel Johnson who dropped 16 points off the bench. Johnson led four Scarlet Knights who scored in double figures including Corey Sanders who had 14 points and added five steals.
The loss was CCSU’s second straight and drops its overall record to 2-5. Next up for the Blue Devils is a road date with Duquesne on Saturday. Rutgers improved to 8-1 on the season with the win and will visit Stony Brook on Saturday.
