The CCSU women’s basketball team was defeated by Syracuse 95-63 on Sunday at the Carrier Dome.
Freshman Taylor Goode led the Blue Devils in scoring with a career-high 14 points as CCSU’s record fell to 1-6 on the season.
Central has a quick turnaround as it travels to Virginia Tech to take on the Hokies Wednesday night at 6 p.m.
Syracuse (6-3) jumped out to a 10-0 lead, until sophomore Andi Lydon got the Blue Devils’ offense rolling, hitting a jumper at the foul line against SU’s zone defense. CCSU forced five Orange turnovers and cut the lead to 13-8 at the first media time out.
Goode hit a deep buzzer-beater at the end of the first quarter to make the score 25-15 through 10 minutes of action.
Syracuse seniors Alexis Peterson and Brittney Sykes maintained the Syracuse lead in the first half, combining for 27 points.
Both teams traded baskets throughout the second quarter, with Central tallying 18 points compared to Syracuse’s 20 points.
In the third period Syracuse set the tempo out of the halftime gate, going on a 7-3 run to start, and did not let off the gas pedal.
Sykes notched a double-double in points and rebonds with 26 and 14, respectively. Peterson also recorded a double-double in points and assists, scoring 26 and dishing out 10 assists.
Lydon sunk 10 points, grabbed four boards, had a career-high three steals and added one assist.
Aleah Epps contributed 10 points and distributed four assists.
