BRISTOL – Recreational cannabis sales shall be allowed within Bristol after a roughly three hour special meeting of Bristol City Council Thursday night heard dozens of voices debating the merits and hazards of such a decision.
Council members in a close decision voted to allow hybrid retailer sales, limited to two such dispensaries, in a four to three vote.
Cheryl Thibeault, Ordinance Committee member and City Councilwoman, brought forward an amendment asking colleagues to enter legal language into a proposed ordinance allowing for hybrid dispensaries to make recreational cannabis sales within the city. Agreeing with her were Mayor Jeff Caggiano, Councilman Andrew Howe and Councilwoman Jolene Lusitani. Voting against the decision were Fellow Ordinance Committee members and Councilwomen Jacqueline Olsen, Sue Tyler and Councilman Sebastian Panioto.
Several other amendments were made to further modify the ordinance but were voted down along the same voting member groupings.
In a coming article, the Bristol Press will detail more of the happenings and opinions voiced at the meeting.
