NEW BRITAIN - The Hospital of Central Connecticut (HOCC) announced that they have earned high marks across the board in patient safety from an independent organization.

According to a part of the spring 2022 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades national rankings that was released Hospitals across HOCC earned four “A” grades.

“We are extremely honored and proud to receive this prestigious distinction from The Leapfrog Group,” said Gary Havican, president of The Hospital of Central Connecticut. “Quality and safety is our top priority and this grade is a true testament to the hard work, skill, and dedication in delivering a high standard of care to those we serve.”

Quality and safety is just as much of a top priority for the Leapfrog Group as it is for HOCC and is recognized as the toughest standard-setters for healthcare quality and safety. The nonprofit watchdog organization serves as a voice for health care consumers and its Hospital Safety Grades serve as a guide for patients by recognizing hospital achievements in protecting patients from harm and error while they are in the hospital.

Hospitals are assigned an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on more than 30 national performance measures that examine errors, injuries, accidents and infections, as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm to patients.

“These grades are reflective of a tremendous achievement, of which this community should be extremely proud,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “I thank the leadership and workforce for its commitment to prioritizing patients and their safety, especially during these trying times.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on the work done by hospitals to prevent medical errors and harm to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
