BRISTOL – American Legion Post 2 has completed the annual changing of flags on veterans' graves in honor of Memorial Day with the assistance of many volunteers from the community.

Bristol Veterans Council Chair Dave Carello said that the flags have been replaced at all Bristol and Forestville Cemeteries.

"Each year, in excess of 6,000 flags are removed from the individual graves of our Veterans and replaced with new ones," said Carello. "This task is done one flag at a time by members of local veterans’ organizations and volunteers. The American Legion and Bristol Veterans Council would like to thank the many who assisted in this Patriotic task."

Those who assisted with the changing of the flags this year included ESPN Veterans, Kids in the Middle led by Amy Campisano, The Bristol CERT (Community Response Team), Cub Scouts Pack 425, Boy Scout Troop 9 and Scoutmaster Chris Hoffman, The DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) and others.
