BRISTOL – Bristol Hospital’s Beekley Center for Breast Health and Wellness has been recognized nationally for the quality care it delivers.

“We’re so honored and proud to be recognized as one of the best at what we do,” Dr. Elizabeth Brady, medical director at the center, said in a statement. “But what really matters most to us is that we are able to help those right here in our community and get them back to what they feel is healthy. It can be a challenge for them based on the circumstances they’re dealing with, but we here at the Beekley Center know that we can get them back there.”

Hospital officials on Tuesday said Beekley has been named as One of America’s Best Comprehensive Breast Centers by the Women’s Choice Award, which officials referred to as a trusted referral source for the best in healthcare. The award means the Beekley Center is in the top 7% of the 4,728 hospitals in the country that offer breast care services.

Hospital officials on Tuesday added that the Beekley Center for Breast Health and Wellness was also named one of the nation’s Best Mammogram Imaging Centers.

The importance of a quality breast health center is evident in the inspiration behind the Women’s Choice Award. Its founder and CEO, Delia Passi, was the victim of poor imaging and misdiagnosis. Doctors eventually discovered her breast cancer after a surgical biopsy and two lumpectomies at 42 years old. Her experience was the inspiration behind creating the Women’s Choice Award for Best Hospitals following her career as the former publisher of Working Woman and Working Mother magazines.

“As a breast cancer survivor, I learned the hard way that where you choose to have your mammogram can have a profound impact on your outcome and experience,” Passi said in a written statement.

“We empower women to make educated, confident decisions about their health,” Passi continued. “By letting women know which breast centers in their area are among America’s best, we are able to reduce risk by helping them make better decisions and smarter health care choices.”

“People most often come to us at a very, very emotional and challenging time, but what I love is that we also get to see them later on,” said Brady. “We get to be with them two, three, five, 10 years down the road and experience with them all of life’s joys, watching their kids grow up, graduations and weddings. It’s beyond special to be a part of that. We just love taking care of patients, and really their loved ones and family members because breast cancer impacts, certainly the patient, who is most important, but so many others around them as well.”

The methodology used to select Beekley as one of America’s Best Comprehensive Breast

Centers is unique in that it evaluates Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems survey results along with primary research about women’s healthcare

Preferences, Bristol Hospital officials said.

The list of 466 Comprehensive Breast Center award winners, including Beekley, represents breast centers that have met the highest standards of breast care in the nation as set by the

National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers or the National Quality Measures for Breast Centers and carry the Breast Imaging Center of Excellence seal from the American College of Radiology. The Beekley Center is one of 1,628 nationwide to be named one of America’s Best Mammogram Imaging Centers.
