I announced recently that Donna Papazian has stepped down as a member of the Bristol Tramps Committee. Donna, who has been active in the community, brought a lot of class to the Tramps, as she has with other endeavors.
I also have learned that Joe Tavera will be leaving the organization after double-digit years with, Kathleen Archibald following him after four. Each had taken on important, strong roles with The Tramps, and will be missed.
Luckily, we have people like Lance Pepper who stepped up this year with regards to a sort of youth movement on our part. Let’s hope The Tramps continue for another 50 years. There are so many folks that are or will be left to honor.
John and Renee Warner celebrated an anniversary yesterday. John is a retired Bristol Press employee and Renee goes back to Bristol Eastern when I was there as an underclassman. Two fine people.
Larry McDonnell celebrated his birthday yesterday.
Paul DiNoia, once again, reminds me that the Bristol High combined classes of 1950 and 1951 are holding a reunion on Oct. 6, 2021 at Chippanee Golf Club. Call Sylvia DuPont (860-593-5141) for information.
Two fine ladies
I was saddened to first hear that Grace (Barlow) Stranieri had passed away. She would call me from time-to-time with a comment and was also a contact person for the class reunion previously mentioned here today. She was a joy to chat with.
I opened the paper yesterday to read that another woman that I admire had died, Carol (Granger) Fitz, the wife of Robert “Dick” Fitz. I recall visiting Dick at his home on a couple of occasions, while Carol sat in a nearby chair while taking part in our conversations. She was a peach, and quite the comforting host.
To Hank Lodge, Ruth Norton and Bernie O’Keefe, who I’m long overdue for visits.
Before I put my research hat on, I thought I’d toss this one out to the “Peanut Gallery” first. I’m told there was a dust devil reported in local waters in 1968, which blew off a 150 pound roof covering from a picnic area. Did this occur at Lake Compounce, and does anyone remember seeing or reading about it?
I have a new phone friend by the name of John Lewis. He contacted me a short time ago on a subject, which I hope to look into. Anyway, John has a nice way about him on the phone and seems like a good fellow. All the more, he’s a Vietnam veteran. Thank you for your service, John.
Shout out to Ramona Jenkins
I spoke with Ramona on the phone from Florida, before she came up to Bristol for The Tramps dinner recently. I then met her in person, and found her to be quite the nice lady. She was here to see her brother, Doug Jackson, being recognized by the sports organization.
Which reminds me, I should write a “Builders of Bristol” segment on their late father. Richard “Stonewall” Jackson, Sr. If you’d like to contribute some comments on Mr. Jackson, please do so in an email or note to me. Thank you.
