BRISTOL – Shepard Meadows Therapeutic Riding Center, Inc. will hold a fundraising picnic Saturday to support the center.

Shelly Pope, executive director, said the event will be a fun way for local families to enjoy some time outdoors.

“If you come out I know you’ll have a good time,” she said. “We’ll have eight horses out wandering in the courtyard and our staff will be on hand if you want to go up to them, pet them and visit with them.”

Due to covid-19, people who attend the picnic are asked to keep six feet or more apart and to wear masks. No alcohol will be permitted for this event.

The picnic will he held from 5 to 7 p.m., at Shepard Meadows, 733 Hill St., Bristol, with a rain-date set for Aug. 8. People are invited to bring their picnic baskets and blankets and enjoy their dinner among grazing horses.

Tickets for the Farmyard Party are $40 per person and can be purchased on via PayPal. Or, people can mail a payment and guest information to SMRTC, 733 Hill St., Bristol, CT, 06010.

Proceeds from the event will help Shepard Meadows to throw their Farmyard Party, which is sponsored by The OakBridge Group, in September in lieu of a traditional gala.

The Farmyard Party, which is restricted to guests 21 or older, will be held Sept. 12, with a rain date of Sept. 13, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Shepard Meadows.

“Depending on how many people we are allowed to have, whether it is 100 people or we move into the next stage and are allowed to have more, there will be a lot of fun things to do,” said Pope. “There will be live music by Tommy Whalen and ‘Leap Year’, horseback rides, a silent auction and a raffle.
