BRISTOL - A Bristol man who was allegedly found with nearly 200 grams of cocaine in his apartment, where a child also resides, must decide whether he wants to take a plea bargain.

Jean Carlos Moreno, 28, of 818 Pine St., appeared Tuesday in New Britain Superior Court, where Judge Maureen Keegan said her plea deal offer must be taken or formally rejected by Nov. 12.

The deal, in its original state, was offered to Moreno during a previous hearing earlier this year. Keegan agreed to modify the terms of the deal on Tuesday. Although she said she first indicated it would be a one-day offer, Keegan agreed to grant Moreno a continuance until Nov. 12 to think it over.

The terms of the plea bargain were not discussed in open court.

Moreno, who is free on $100,000 bond, was arrested Jan. 14 after Bristol police and members of the DEA raided his apartment.

Authorities during the raid reported finding a large, clear bag filled with 188 grams of cocaine inside, according to the police report. The bag was in a dresser found in the bedroom Moreno shares with another resident.

Inside the apartment, authorities also found bags of marijuana, totaling 14 grams, a small pouch with two grams of cocaine inside, a digital scale with cocaine residue on it, a cell phone and bags of marijuana edibles labeled “weedy pebbles” and “gummy” edibles, police wrote in the report.

According to the report, Moreno took responsibility for all the drugs that were found.

Police contacted the state’s Department of Children and Families following the raid, as a child lives in the apartment and had access to “candy like edibles,” according to the report. The child was not home when the apartment was searched.

Shortly after authorities entered the apartment, Moreno, without being prompted, said anything illegal found in the unit belonged to him, as two other residents were in the residence unit at the time, the report said.

Moreno has pleaded not guilty to charges of possession of cocaine with intent to sell, possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell in a prohibited place, possession of a controlled substance and possession of less than a half ounce of marijuana.
