BRISTOL - The Bristol Farmers Market has announced that Lauren Hassan, registered dietitian nutritionist from ShopRite Supermarket of Bristol will be joining the City of Bristol for a cooking demonstration on Saturday.

Hassan will prepare seasonal dishes using locally-grown produce and fresh beef from the Bristol Farmers Market vendors. Over the last several months, the Department of Public Works partnered with the Bristol Public Schools to build gardens at several schools. On Saturday from 11 a.m. to noon, students from these Bristol Gardens – A Work of Heart schools will be on-hand at the Farmer’s Market at Centre Square across from City hall to help prepare the dishes with some of the fresh vegetables that were grown over the summer in these gardens.

The cooking demonstration will also offer shoppers of the Bristol Farmers Market an opportunity to learn how to make delicious dishes with the seasonal produce and market products. Free recipes will be available.

“Education is the key to stimulating interest in local foods - as more people become aware of the nutritional, taste, and sustainable values of purchasing local foods, the Bristol Farmers Market provides an excellent venue to teach its customers how to creatively use seasonal produce,” said Mayor Ellen Zoppo-Sassu. “The goal is to have them become excited to make these dishes at home using the products they purchase from the Farmers Market.”
