Bristol Bits

Linda DiMatteo, a member of TEAM Bristol, sent me photos of Joe Englert, Art Ward and Tim Gamache combining efforts to place U.S. Flags at different locations in Bristol last month. They did Farmington Avenue from end to end, Forestville Center and the Mix Street area.

Tim drove the truck and Art passed the flags to Joe who then placed them in holders on the telephone poles along the way. TEAM Bristol, of which Joe and Art are part of, took charge of seeing that the flags were purchased this year. You may recall that I had a photo of Linda and members of the Englert family preparing the flags to be distributed a few weeks ago after arriving at City True Value Hardware & Rental where they were stored.

Relay for Life

I drove down Memorial Boulevard on Friday when the Bristol Relay for Life was taking place and the next day at mid-morning when I came up the roadway heading towards downtown, the field where the event was held was completely empty. What I noticed even more was that I did not see one piece of litter on the grounds. Pretty awesome. A well done to co-chairs Derrick and Marissa LaChance and the many volunteers.

Erin King

My condolences to the family of Robert King, a Plymouth resident who recently died. Included is daughter, Erin, who is married to Nick Calabrese. Erin is a former Bristol Press editor who has been a great volunteer here in Bristol. She made a lot of admirers and friends, including myself, when working for The Bristol Press because of her good nature and respect for others.

Tim Denehy

I’m not sure what Tim Denehy does for a living, but he certainly would have been a great teacher had he chosen that career path. Tim hosted a WWII program at the Bristol Historical Society on Saturday and in doing so reminded me of his father, the late Jack Denehy, who taught social studies at the former Memorial Boulevard School. His mother, Carol, who assisted Tim with the program, is also a retired educator. Anyway, a well done to Tim Denehy.

Fifty three years

I was told by a reliable source that John and Barbara (Sundgren) Letizia recently reached 53 years of marriage. The pair go back to Bristol Eastern years when John was a good-looking soccer player and Barbara was a popular cheerleader.

Lunch with friends

One of the subjects that came up when Woody Anderson, Tom Downs, Terry Fletcher Ed Lorenson, John Smith and I met for lunch on Tuesday at 150 Central was a tornado a few years back that hit the area of Camp Street. Does anyone recall it and the year it took place? If so, please contact me as shown below.

BHS Governance Committee

Here are the individuals who sit on this committee for the Bristol Historical Society: Maya Bringe, chair; Don Muller, vice-chair; and members Mike Saman, Lindsey Vigue and Bob Boudreau.
