BRISTOL - Authorities are mum on an investigation that culminated in armed federal authorities being seen on Maple Street Wednesday morning.

A user on Facebook authored a post on “Bristol Talks” on Wednesday indicating that “men in military uniforms and armed” were somewhere on Maple Street. The post did not say specifically where on Maple Street the armed officials were. The men were later identified as federal law enforcement authorities, but why they were in Bristol remains elusive.

Bristol police on Wednesday declined to comment on the matter, saying it was not their investigation. They referred any questions to federal authorities.

Amid a partial federal government shutdown, the spokesman for the Connecticut district of the U.S. Attorney’s Office was not available for comment Wednesday.

“Due to the lapse in appropriations, I am not in the office,” Thomas Carson said via an automatic reply in response to an email inquiry.
