BRISTOL - A 44-year-old Terryville man accused of propositioning a Bristol teenager by allegedly sending her a list of sexual favors she could complete for money has been offered a plea bargain.
Shane Silva appeared Wednesday, in Bristol Superior Court, where a judge granted him a final continuance to decide if he wants to take the plea deal - the terms of which were not put on the record. If a deal cannot be reached on the next court date, on Jan. 15, Judge John Cronan said the case will be scheduled for a judicial pretrial hearing - when Cronan can offer his own plea deal.
A judicial pretrial hearing is generally the last type of hearing conducted before a case goes to trial, unless a plea deal is accepted.
Silva, who is free on $50,000 bond, has pleaded not guilty to charges of criminal attempt to employ a minor in an obscene performance and risk of injury to a minor.
According to the arrest warrant, Silva in winter of 2017 sent the 14-year-old victim a list of things she could do to earn $100 each, including sending him nude photos, performing oral sex on him, allowing him to perform oral sex on her and going anywhere he wanted with him during her next school vacation. The document said no sexual contact is alleged to have taken place.
According to the warrant, Silva knows the victim’s mother and had been acting as a father figure to the teen. The girl went with Silva on two business trips of his in late 2016 and early 2017. During the trips, police allege, he made sexually-suggestive comments toward the girl.
Officers seized Silva’s phone and other electronic devices from his home in May 2017, after a detective two months earlier tried twice to line up an interview with him, but he didn’t show up either time, the warrant said. While police were at his home, he agreed to speak with investigators.
During the interview, Silva admitted that he has said inappropriate things to the teen and sent her the list of sexual favors that she showed officers, but he affirmed that he never intended to go through with any of the acts, according to the warrant.
