BRISTOL - The Bristol Boys & Girls Club’s 20th Annual Mayor’s Cup returns to Chippanee Country Club Monday, July 16, with a full roster of 144 participants.

The golf outing is one of the Boys & Girls Club’s major fund-raisers. It will include a lunch at 11 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. and an awards, dinner, live auctions and raffles following the tournament.

“The mayor has traditionally supported this outing and a lot of them have golfed as well,” said Sarah Lucian, development and marketing director with the Bristol Boys & Girls Club. “The majority of past mayors usually attend as well. Mayor Ellen Zoppo-Sassu will be joining us for lunch and dinner.”

Lucian said the Mayor’s Cup collected $71,000 last year to support the club’s programs for youths ages 6 to 18.

“People have a lot of fun and we get a lot of repeat participants,” said Lucian. “Last year we also started a tradition where Christina Fries from our club makes Jell-O shots named after our mayors.”

“Ellen’s Eight Iron”

There will be “Ellen’s Eight Iron”, a Bristol Berry Blue, in honor of Mayor Ellen Zoppo-Sassu; Leone’s Long Drive, a grape-tini in honor of John Leone; Nicastro’s Nine Iron, a cherry soda in honor of Frank Nicastro; Cockayne’s Cut Shot, a pina colada in honor of Ken Cockayne; The Artie Palmer, a lemon drop with a hint of tea in honor of Art Ward; Bill’s Birdies, an orange creamsicle in honor of Bill Stortz; Couture’s Caddie, a strawberry daiquiri in honor of Gerry Couture; and The Mike Mulligan, an apple jolly rancher shot in honor of Mike Werner.

This will also be the second year that participants can enjoy a “raw bar” with oysters and clams.

Raffle items will include a “wheelbarrow full of booze” and the live auction items will include four Red Sox tickets, brewery tickets and passes for several local golf courses.

Lucian thanked the Mayor’s Cup Committee, co-chaired by Tony Mattioli and Dave Hrdlicka, for making the event happen.

Major sponsors include Presenting Sponsor Conveyco Technologies, Raw Bar Sponsor ESPN, Raffle Sponsor Atlantic Precision Spring, Gift Sponsor Primo Press, LLC, Golf Cart Sponsor Beirne Wealth Consulting Services, and Closest to the Pin Sponsor Jake’s Wayback Burger.
