PLAINVILLE - The Plainville Family Fest returns to Linden Street School this Saturday, bringing priceless family fun.

There’s something for everyone at the Family Fest, say committee members Donna Cavallaro, Theresa Royce and Carolyn Coughlin. The admission-free event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the rear of the school at 69 Linden St. Each child who comes to the event will receive a free book.

“This is our fifth annual event and it has been growing each year,” said Royce. “In our first year we had about 400 people and last year, the first year we moved from the high school to Linden, we had 1,500. Last year, people kept telling me that it was our best year ever.”

Cavallaro said she was recently approached by a paraeducator following one of the committee’s planning meetings.

“She told us, ‘You guys really go over and above to provide a fantastic day for families,’” said Cavallaro.

More than 50 community organizations will be participating, providing activities and information to those who attend the festival. Activities and attractions will including a petting zoo, shadow puppet shows, face painting, an inflatable slide, a ball pit, hula hoops, airbrush tattoos, “touch-a-truck” with fire and police vehicles, a photo booth, lawn games, a remote control train, spin art and more.

“People not only enjoy the fact that there are so many activities for children, but the fact that they can learn so much about the different organizations in our community,” said Coughlin. “Between the recreation department, the YMCA and Wheeler Clinic, there are a lot of health and recreation options available in town.”

A magician, a DJ, the Plainville High School Jazz Band and the Plainville Choral Society will provide entertainment.

There will also be chances for families to take pictures with costumed characters such as Ariel the Little Mermaid, Batman, Clifford the Big Red Dog, Curious George, Llama Llama, Pete the Cat and local elementary school mascots.

Food vendors will include a brick oven pizza truck, an ice cream truck and an Italian ice truck, the Linden PTO stand serving up burgers, and Rebel Dog Coffee.

Vendors will include handmade American Girl doll clothing, handcrafted bags, handcrafted jewelry from Flipping and Stones, wood crafts, essential oils and homemade natural soaps from The Garden Door.

There will also be a free raffle drawing, with prizes including wooden Adirondack chairs.

The event is made possible thanks to donations from the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain, the Elizabeth Norton Trust and private donations.

There is still room for vendors to participate and those who wish to donate a book may still do so. For more information, call 860-793-6304, visit plainvillefamilyfest.net or follow Plainville Family Fest on Facebook.
