BRISTOL - Local kids had the chance to spend one on one time with a role model in their lives Friday night at the third annual Mommy-Son Valentine’s Dance at The Boys & Girls Club of Bristol Family Center.

The dance, which had over 400 attendees, had many volunteers and sponsors, including Crowe Horwath, a Simsbury accounting, consulting and technology firm, Bristol State Farm, the West Hartford Banana Republic, Raptis Orthodontics and NY Life.

“I think these moments for parents and their kids to have one on one time together at an event that’s focused on them is so important,” said Marketing Manager Sarah Lucian, who explained that regardless of the event’s name, it was open to kids and any positive role model in their lives. “I’m so grateful to our staff that help coordinate the event, and to all of the volunteers that helped make it happen,” added Lucian.

Dignalee Jorge, who was there with her four kids, Jayden and Julian Colón, and Joel and Jazmine Rivera, stated that they “love the event.”

“It’s awesome here,” said Jorge, who added that all of her kids are regularly at the club. “The staff is very involved and we love all of the events. They are very enthusiastic about what they do here,” added Jorge, while standing next to a candy bar that was organized for the kids.

Bristol State Farm Agent Zach Ibanez was also in attendance, became involved in the club when he was older.

“When I was a kid, I wasn’t involved in the boys and girls clubs, but became involved when I got older,” said Ibanez, as attendees enjoyed the music played by the DJ and went in and out of the bounce houses set up in the club’s gym.

“When I moved back to Connecticut, I realized how involved kids were in the club. I felt it was important to get involved in something local,” Ibanez added. “We wanted to make an effort to get involved in the community we work in.”
