SOUTHINGTON - The Southington man who went missing for days before his body was found behind a New Britain medical building took his own life, state officials said.

Charles “Chuck” Davenport, 56, of Southington, was a carpentry teacher at Wilcox Technical High School in Meriden. He was reported missing from Southington on Nov. 27.

Police in that town had been searching for Davenport for days before a New Britain police officer discovered his body behind 1 Lake St. Tuesday morning.

An autopsy concluded that he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner said.
