SOUTHINGTON – A Southington man who was reported missing Nov. 27 was found dead behind a New Britain medical building this morning.

Charles “Chuck” Davenport, 56, was a carpentry teacher at Wilcox Technical High School. Southington police have been looking for him since he was reported missing. A New Britain officer found Davenport and his gray pick-up truck behind 1 Lake St. at around 8 a.m.

School officials at Wilcox Technical High School in Meriden told students that Davenport had died.

Davenport, a Southington resident, had not been seen since Nov. 27. Southington and state police have been looking for his truck for several days. Davenport walked with a cane and police believed that he likely wouldn’t be able to walk far from the vehicle.

Southington police confirmed the death by email this afternoon. In a phone message to parents Wilcox principal Joyce Mowrey said students are being offered counseling.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner said an autopsy will not be conducted until Wednesday. New Britain police do not believe foul play is involved and are investigating the case as an untimely death, New Britain police Chief James Wardwell said.
