BRISTOL - The Bristol Hospital Counseling Center is holding an open discussion Tuesday on anxiety and its relationship to mental health.

Michael Miarecki of the counseling center explained that each month the Mental Health and Substance Recovery Series features a discussion that is focused on a specific aspect of mental health.

This month’s topic of discussion, he said, is anxiety and is one of many parts that make up the series hosted by the counseling center.

This month’s discussion will touch upon many aspects of anxiety, he said, including symptoms, how people feel when anxious, and symptoms to look out for when caring for people who may be anxious and how to handle anxiety professionally or at home.

“It’s an open forum, so it’s open to anyone who wants to come in,” Miarecki said. “Questions don’t have to be anxiety related but it’s the main topic of this session.”

“It’s open for people to discuss their concerns for any mental health issues,” he continued. “It’s to learn about mental health or any other issues that someone might be experiencing that is difficult for them.”

Miarecki said two more sessions are slated in the series. The following session is on Jan. 2, and will be focused on LGBTQ issues, and the session on Feb. 6 will be focused on substance abuse.

The discussion on anxiety is set for Tuesday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Bristol Hospital Counseling Center located at 420 N. Main St. The event is free and no RSVP is required.
