BRISTOL - No injuries were reported when an SUV smashed into a utility pole on Route 72 Friday.

Shortly after noon, police, firefighters and an ambulance responded to the accident, which occurred just before the CSM Anthony V. Savino Memorial Bridge on the Route 72 extension. There, a Jeep Liberty had sustained heavy front end damage to its driver’s side after striking a light pole.

The driver, a middle-aged woman, declined to go to the hospital. There were no passengers in the vehicle

After hitting the pole, which caused the light bulb to come down and shatter, the Liberty ended up about 30 feet from the collision. The pole did not break, but it did rock in place a few times after the crash. The Jeep had to be towed from the scene. The road was closed for some time as the crash was cleaned up.
