Roundup: Goodwin Tech girls volleyball wins, New Britain falls in fifth set

NEW BRITAIN - Goodwin Tech defeated Norwich Wednesday night, winning 3-1.

Goodwin won the first two sets at 25-18 and 25-14, respectively. Norwich won the third set 25-12 before Goodwin put the game to bed in a 25-19 fourth-set win.

Avalise Hernandez had a 15 service points with six aces and eight digs, all team-high figures. Maribel Gonzalez had 12 service points with three aces and seven kills, the latter of the three being a high.

Trinity Chambers had eight assists and Rachael Astacio had seven digs.

Meriden 3, New Britain 2: New Britain lost to Meriden Wednesday night, falling 3-2 in a close battle.

Meriden took the first and third sets, winning 25-22 and 25-16, respectively. New Britain won the second set 25-19 and the fourth set 25-18 to force the deciding fifth set.

Meriden was able to hold off the Hurricanes 15-8 for the win.

Kasianna Denmark scored 12 points from serve, adding eight kills and three blocks to her night. Isamarys Rodriguez had 19 service points, a team-high, and six digs.

Kiatyanna Denmark had 13 digs and 10 service points while Wendeley Garcia added 10 digs to the defensive efforts.

Conard 3, Bristol Eastern 2: Bristol Eastern lost to Conard Wednesday night, falling 3-2.

Eastern took the second set 25-20 and the fourth set 27-25. Conard won the first set 25-14, the third set 25-15, and then the deciding fifth set at 18-16.

The Lancers had 21 kills from Hannah Webber, who also added six aces to her night. Lauren Bender had 16 kills and Abby Jones had 33 assists.
