With the spring season in the rearview mirror it is now time to look back and recognize the most outstanding performances from the past two months as the postseason awards start to come out.

Many of the Bristol-area baseball and softball teams had strong seasons that resulted in state-tournament appearances with the St. Paul baseball team leading the way by playing in the state championship game. The Falcons finished the regular season as the top-seeded team in Class S entering the tournament behind two players selected to the CHSCA all-state team and five all-conference honorees.

In addition to being St. Paul’s pair of all-state talents, juniors Mario Izzo and Ryan Daniels were also the team’s two players to hit home runs during their game at Dunkin Donuts Park this season. The two anchored a potent offense that scored runs in bunches all season while losing just three games this season.

Daniels’ 16 home runs led the state this year as he carried a .560 batting average and drove in 42 runs.

These two players were joined by senior Owen Davis and junior Casey Cerruto on the 2021 all-NVL team as both important parts of the batting order and key parts of the defense. Davis was additionally named the conference's most outstanding senior for his play this year which featured a variety of stellar pitching performances caught by Cerruto.

Sophomore Jamie Leggett earned some notice in his first year of varsity baseball for his work on the mound, in center field and as the team's second batter in the lineup. Leggett received all-NVL Iron Division honors for the second time this year to go along with his strong basketball season.

Bristol Eastern made a late-season push to reach the state tournament and much of the team’s success came from their lone postseason award recipient, senior Andrew Lozier. Committed to play at the University of Connecticut-Avery Point, Lozier was named to the Class L all-state team in addition to being an all-CCC selection. He was one of the Lancers’ most consistent players all year from the mound, the batter’s box and playing in the infield. He was also invited to play for the District 1 team in the CHSCA senior all-star game.

Also earning a spot on the District 1 team was Bristol Central senior Mike Lorenzetti, who is joined by teammates Sean Wininger and JT Clark as all-CCC players this year. Lorenzetti and Wininger were two of Central’s most reliable arms this year as they reached the second round of the Class L tournament, giving the team strong starts every time they pitched. As the Rams’ leadoff hitter, Clark served as an instigator for the offense as his hitting set up the players behind him to drive in runs.
