The tennis team state tournament is back and eight area schools across both boys and girls teams have qualified this year.

Six of the eight matches will kick off on Friday, while two of the contests will go down this Saturday.

On the girls side, each match will take place Friday, led by Newington’s battle with Masuk in the Class L state tournament at 3:45 p.m. No. 15 Southington will host No. 18 Wilton in a Class LL playdown match at 4 p.m. with the winner facing second-seeded Amity on Saturday at 10 a.m.

The rest of the matchups will be at 1 p.m. with No. 18 Bristol Central visiting No. 15 North Haven in Class L qualifiers for a chance to face No. 2 Woodstock; and No. 17 Berlin heading to 16th-seeded Lauralton in Class M qualifiers with the winner facing top-seeded Ellington. Lauralton are the reigning state runner-ups in Class M.

The boys side begins with two matches on Friday as 18th-seeded Berlin will visit 15th-seeded East Haven in the Class M playdowns with the winner taking on second-seeded Avon. No. 13 Bristol Eastern will play at fourth-seeded Wethersfield, with both matches starting at 1 p.m.

The Newington boys and Southington boys will both play Saturday at 10 a.m. as the 10th-seeded Nor’easters will head to No. 7 South Windsor in Class L, and the fourth-seeded Blue Knights will welcome 13th-seeded Conard.

Matches for both boys and girls will be played at the higher seed in all rounds until the finals on Thursday, June 3.

The individual invitational tournament pairings have not been released as of Thursday.
