BRISTOL - The Bristol Eastern boys basketball team defeated Derby 56-43 at home on Saturday to improve to 3-2 for the season.

Both teams started slow in a sluggish first quarter ending in a 5-5 tie, with Iassac Dubay tallying all of the Lancers’ points.

“It was a frustrating quarter playing with very little emotion and just not executing any type of offense,” Lancers coach Bunty Ray said.

Both teams found their stride going into the half, with the game knotted at 23. In the second half, Eastern came out with a purpose behind Carter Dziedzic, who finished with 20 points, while Jahcyrus Bynum added 15 points and six assists.

“Jahcyrus and Carter started very slow and really settled in the second half and made big plays to energize us,” Ray said.

The Eastern coach also credited Bryce Curtin (11 rebounds), Dylan Woodsome and Drew Fries for great efforts, doing all the dirty work on the boards and loose balls.
