FARMINGTON - The No. 7-seed St. Paul boys soccer team picked up a 1-0 victory over visiting No. 26 Coventry on Tuesday afternoon to advance in the Class S state tournament.

The Falcons (11-3-3) will host a second round game on Thursday against the winner of a game today between No. 10 Hale Ray (10-5-1) and No. 23 Immaculate (7-8-1).

Tuesday’s first round game was tied until captain Stefan Zwolinski kicked the ball over the goalie’s for a beautiful goal with just four minutes remaining in regulation.

Maloney 2, Bristol Eastern 1 (PKs, 4-3): Regulation play and overtime couldn’t decide Tuesday night’s evenly-matched contest between No. 16 Bristol Eastern and No. 17 Maloney in the first round of the Class L state tournament. The Spartans prevailed by a 4-3 advantage in penalty kicks.

The game was delayed a few hours due to yesterday’s rain, while Bristol Central’s Class L first round game at Ellis Tech was postponed until today at 2 p.m.
