WINSTED - The Terryville boys soccer team tied the game with six minutes to play, then got a quick goal inj overtime to walk away with a 3-2 victory over Gilbert on Thursday afternoon at Walker Field.
Michael Hills scored in the 15th minute to give Terryville the early lead, assisted by Garrick Webster. But Gilbert got a pair of second half goals from Kyle Valickis to take a 2-1 lead.
Then Evan Coviello scored in the 74th minute, assisted by Ardonis Shahini, to tie the contest and Ryan Maske scored a minute into overtime, assisted by Coviello, for the go-ahead goal.
Bristol Eastern 1, Maloney 0: The Lancers improved to 5-2-1 with a hard-fought victory against visiting Maloney (4-2-1).
Wednesday’s match was deadlocked at halftime, with Maloney controlling much of the play. Backs Dante Constatiello and Drew Dauphanee were outstanding on defense, cutting off scoring opportunities.
The Lancers found their stride in the second half, forcing the play on the Maloney end with aggressive play. Jake Woziniki, Ben Cahisson and Jon Loja created several chances, while Elijah Parent and Branden Greger helped in the midfield.
With 4:34 left in the game, Constatiello scored on a free kick from 30 yards out to give the Lancers the lead. The shutout was held by goalkeeper Nate Diloretto, who made six saves.
“Playing two physical games in three days is difficult, however our players showed tremendous heart and determination, keeping us moving forward at the halfway point,” Eastern coach Bill Sweet said.
The Lancers host Middletown Saturday at 4 p.m.
Gilbert 4, Terryville 3: The Kangaroos got two goals from Zoe Zappone and one from Lindsey Hotchkiss on a penalty kick, but lost at home.
Hotchkiss also had an assist for Terryville (2-5-1), while Marcela Moreira scored three goals for Gilbert (3-3).
