BRISTOL — The Bristol Eastern wrestling team had a strong season, yet one that the Lancers wanted more out of.

Bristol Eastern finished the regular season undefeated, repeated as Class L state champions and tied for second in the State Open.

Three wrestlers qualified for New Englands, Jordon Champagne (113 pounds), Mike Barrett (160) and Trinidad Gonzalez (195). For head coach Bryant Lishness, having three wrestlers qualify for New Englands was a record.

Champagne and Barrett both went 4-2 at New Englands.

Gonzalez finished 2-2.

“Gonzalez is disappointed,” Lishness said. “But he has some lofty goals for next season and is motivated to improve to get on top of the podium next season.”

Barrett set a new city record for wins on the season while Champagne surpassed 100 career wins.

Gonzalez, still a junior, won back-to-back Class L state titles.

With Gonzalez back next season, along with other fellow juniors Justin Marshall and Diego Fernandez, the Lancers are set up for another impressive season next year.
