NEW HAVEN - It was another impressive showing for the Bristol Eastern wrestling team.
The Lancers once again demonstrated why they are one of the best programs in not only the state, but in New England as they tied for second place in the State Open on Saturday after finishing with a score of 95.
Danbury was the overall winner with 149.5 points.
Bristol Eastern ended its day with a second-place finisher, a third place, as well as a fifth- and sixth-place finishers.
Trinidad Gonzalez came in second in the 195-pound bracket after falling to Fairfield Warde’s Joe Gjinaj 4-1.
Jordan Champagne was the Lancer who placed third after defeating Glastonbury’s Parker Sutton 4-2 in the 113-pound weight class.
Mikey Barrett decisioned Northwestern’s Josh Schawrtz 2-0 to come away with a fifth-place finish in the 160-pound bracket, while Justin Marshall placed sixth in the 152-pound weight class after falling to Suffield’s John Nieroda.
The Rams didn’t have many participants in the State Open, but Chris Trelli certainly showed well.
The senior placed fifth in the 120-pound bracket after pinning Killingly’s Mike Charron in 1:24.
