Sports Roundup: Gonzalez leads St. Paul girls basketball to win over Fairfield Ludlowe

BRISTOL - Led by Janessa Gonzalez’s 25 points, St. Paul girls basketball edged out Fairfield Ludlowe 52-49 in the Fairfield Warde Christmas Tournament Thursday.

Gonzalez was named to the All-Tournament Team and hit a trio of three-pointers in the contest.

It was an evenly matched contest throughout as St. Paul led 39-37 going into the final frame.

Taylor Crawford and Morgan Kolb were second and third in scoring for the Falcons.

Kolb finished with seven points and Crawford had nine.

Aidrianna Lopez had 11 rebounds in the contest.

As a team the Falcons knocked down 16 foul shots while Fairfield Ludlowe only hit two.

St. Paul moved to 5-1 on the season with the win.

Danbury 57, Bristol Eastern 40: The Bristol Eastern girls basketball fell to Danbury 57-40 during the Greater Danbury Holiday Festival Thursday evening.

The Lancers were led by Hannah Maghini who scored a high of 11 points while teammates Miranda Janick scored nine and Jordan Ouellette scored eight.

Bristol Eastern battled back-and-forth with the Hatters, tying the game 23-23 at the end of the second quarter.

The Lancers were unable to recover as Danbury found momentum in the second half, outscoring Bristol Eastern 34-17.
