Bristol Central's Conrod is third in 100 meters at State Open, best finish among Bristol athletes

NEW BRITAIN - Bristol Central’s Kaynan Conrod placed third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.02, highlighting a good day for Bristol athletes in the State Open championships at Willow Brook Park.

Also with a big finish was the Rams’ Shy-Ann Whitten, who placed fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 35-3¾. Whitten will join Conrod in the New England Championships, to be held Saturday at Norwell (Mass.) High School.

Other Bristol athletes competing were: Bristol Central’s David Bowes, eighth in the 400 meters at 50.62; the Rams’ 4x100 relay (Luis Medina, Bowes, Sean Fitzgerald and Conrod), ninth at 43.46; St. Paul’s lone representative Addison Davis, tying for 14th in the high jump at 4-10; Bristol Eastern’s Kailey Laprise, 15th in the 400 meters at 1:00.40; the Lancers’ Chris LeBeau, 17th in the 1,600 meters at 4:29.17; Bristol Central’s Elijah Ortiz, 17th in the 300 hurdles at 41.99; and the Rams’ Frankie Jenkins, 19th in the triple jump at 40-10.


Division IV state championships: St. Paul placed 14th as a team among 20 competitors at Crestbrook Park in Watertown with a score of 381 (97 over par) over 18 holes. Portland won the team title with a score of 323 (+39).

In a field of 98 golfers, St. Paul’s Ryne Salius was tied for 20th with a round of 83 (+12). Also competing for the Falcons were Michael Dolce (tied for 54th, 94), Sam Mazzarelli (tied for 76th, 102), Matthew Raymond (tied for 76th, 102) and Adam Ward (tied for 82nd, 105).
