Bristol Eastern wrestling to be honored for Class L title

The Bristol Eastern wrestling team will commemorate its Class L state championship during a gathering on Sunday, May 21, at the Italian Social Club. The team, along with family, friends and community supporters will join for a potluck dinner starting at 1 p.m. Members of the team will receive several commemorative items at the event.

“Even though the season has ended, and many of our athletes playing spring sports and getting ready for graduation, the excitement and sense of accomplishment from that night has not faded,” head coach Bryant Lishness said in a press release.

According to the coach, staff and parents have been raising funds for the past three months to purchase the commemorative items, since they are not covered in the athletic department’s budget.

“We feel strongly that every member of the team, from freshman to senior, JV and practice partners, contributed to our overall team success. Every member will be receiving the commemorative items, which has increased the costs,” Lishness said.

The program has held two tournaments to raise money and also has a program book for the May 21 event. Community members who would like to support and celebrate the team may make donations.

“All donations, small and large, would be gratefully accepted to help defray the costs of the commemorative items,” Lishness said.

Checks should be made payable to BEHS Wrestling and mailed to Melissa Pearson at 145 Redwood Drive, Bristol. All donors will be recognized at the event.
