St. Paul softball is first area high school squad to clinch state tournament berth

BRISTOL - The St. Paul softball team has become the first area high school squad in any sport to clinch a state tournament berth this season.

The Falcons did so with an 18-0 victory in five innings over visiting Wilby on Monday afternoon.

St. Paul (8-1) scored its 18 runs on just four hits and no errors by Wilby (0-9), as the visiting team surrendered numerous walks.

Jessica Persechino threw a three-hit shutout for her second win of the season.

Glastonbury 11, Bristol Central 4: The Rams surrendered 11 hits and had three errors in a loss at home on Monday.

Glastonbury (6-0) got home runs from Sam Petow and Em Bronvi.

Sarah Strilkauskas doubled for one of six hits in the game for Bristol Central (1-5).


St. Paul 10, Wolcott 7: The Falcons took a 7-2 lead after the first half on their way to a victory at home on Monday.

Now 2-4, St. Paul surpassed its victory total from last year.

Olivia Stump, Katherine Ciampi and Annie Sullivan scored two goals each for the Falcons, while Morgan Middleton (her career first), Ashley Suzio and Carolyn Del Debbio netted one each.

Falcons goalie Alyssa Kaczynski made seven saves as Wolcott fell to 0-6.

Rockville 8, Bristol 6: Gabby Abramczyk had three goals, Meghan Hamel netted two and Megan Norton put in the other tally for the local co-op in a loss Monday at Bristol Eastern.

Emily Stadnicki had a strong game in the midfield and goalie Jess Kenney made nine saves for the home team as Bristol fell to 1-5 and Rockville improved to 2-3.


Berlin 4, Bristol Eastern 3: Amy Bhagaloo and Julia O’Leary picked up singles wins for the Lancers, while the team of Alivia Castle and Allison Graham won in doubles as the team suffered a narrow defeat at home on Monday.
