BRISTOL – There will be no Bristol Blues baseball this summer, but there will still be action at Muzzy Field in the coming month, starting as soon as this Sunday.
The Bristol American Legion baseball team, now part of the CT Elite Baseball Association, released its schedule on Tuesday morning, marking the beginning of a season that was in limbo after American Legion canceled its national championships, and later its sponsorship for teams across the country, due to the coronavirus outbreak.
A number of teams in Connecticut were still hoping to have baseball under a new label, and branched out to form their own league, which will play under normal legion baseball rules but not under the American Legion umbrella. Bristol is one of those teams, and will have a 17U and 19U playing in the new league this season.
The 19U team begins its season on Sunday, bringing baseball back with a doubleheader against West Hartford at Hall High School. Game one starts at 11 a.m., with game two following at 1 p.m. The team will stay on the road on Tuesday, June 30, when it battles Cheshire. Bristol’s home opener will be on Wednesday, July 1, when it hosts Meriden at 5:30 p.m.
Bristol will stay at Muzzy the following evening for a local battle with Berlin, and will have another local matchup a week later when it travels to Newington on Thursday, July 9 at 5:45 p.m. Bristol will have three more double headers throughout the season, hosting Cheshire for two on Sunday, July 12, traveling to Meriden for two contests on Sunday, July 19, and taking on Berlin at Sage Park for a double header on Sunday, July 26, just before closing the regular season at home on Tuesday, July 28 against Simsbury at 5:30 p.m.
The tournament dates are scheduled to take place from Aug 7 to Aug 9.
The 17U team begins its season this Saturday at Simsbury, playing a double header starting at 11 a.m. Its home opener is against Newington at Riley at 5:30 p.m., and like the 19U team, concludes its season on July 28, traveling to face Avon. The tournament dates are scheduled to be the same as the 19U postseason, bringing the season to an end on Aug 9.
