BRISTOL - The Bristol Central boys basketball team opened the second half of its game against Platt with 20 unanswered points and coasted to a 69-48 win.
The Rams took a big lead early in the game, but the Panthers closed the gap with two big threes in the closing minutes of the first half to narrow the lead to eight points. Central came roaring out of the gate in the third period to score 20 straight points and build the lead to 52-24 before Anthony Nimani broke the drought for Platt with a basket in the final minute of the period.
Nimani added 11 points, including three three-pointers in the flnal period to finish as the game’s high scorer with 25 points
Donovan Clingan led the Rams with 18 points, 11 rebounds and six blocked shots. All of the rebounds came in the first half. Clingan left the game with four minutes left in the third period and did not return as the Central reserves closed out the final 12 minutes. Sean Wininger added 12 and Shane Ouellette dropped in nine for the Rams.
Central improved to 6-2 and will travel to New Britain to take on Innovation on Wednesday.
Bristol Eastern 59, Maloney 28: The Lancers led by 21 points after the first quarter and extended that to 32 points by halftime after shutting out Maloney in the second quarter.
Jordan Ouellette and Avery Arbuckle were the top scorers for Eastern with 16 and 10 points, respectively. The Lancers received scoring contributions from 10 different players in the contest.
They will look for their third consecutive win Jan. 16 when they travel to Hall for a 6:45 p.m. tipoff.
St. Paul 59, Naugatuck 37: The Falcons picked up their second straight win by more than 20 points and fifth consecutive win overall Monday night. They led by 22 at halftime en route to an easy victory.
Janessa Gonzalez continued to fill the stat sheet in this game with a game-high 24 points, eight assists and six steals and Jade Udoh posted another double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds.
St. Paul will be on the road for its next game when it plays Watertown at 6 p.m. on Jan. 15.
