Sports Roundup: Bristol Central boys soccer moves on in state tournament

BRISTOL - The No. 14-seed Bristol Central boys soccer team cruised into the second round of the Class L state tournament with a 4-0 victory at home over No. 19 Bethel on Monday afternoon.

Adam Jones scored two goals for the Rams, while Diego Naranjo and Charlie Pittman had one each. Naranjo, Jones and Carson Rivoira collected assists.

“I thought defensively, our back line was really strong tonight, and it allowed for our skill players - Adam Jones, Mark Palma, Diego Naranjo and David Bowes - to get forward and put pressure on them,” Bristol Central coach Nate Jandreau said.

Goalkeeper Danny Gaudoin made three saves for the Rams, while Nathaniel Correard stopped 12 shots for Bethel (7-6-3).

Bristol Central (10-5-2) advances to play No. 3 Prince Tech/University (13-2-1) on Wednesday afternoon in Hartford.

No. 19 Bolton 3, No. 14 St. Paul 2: The Falcons were defeated in the first round of the Class S state tournament with a loss at home, ending their season with a 9-7-1 record.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

No. 10 Bristol Central 3, No. 23 Suffield 0: The Rams advanced into the second round of the Class L state tournament with a 25-8, 25-9, 25-16 victory at home.

For Bristol Central (15-4), Kathryn Ross had 11 kills and five aces, while Ashleigh Clark had 20 assists and five aces.

For Suffield (9-10), Erika Danlason had four kills and one block, while Jordan Dion had 13 assists and four digs.

The Rams host No. 26 St. Joseph in a second round match on Thursday.
