NEWINGTON - The Bristol Central girls volleyball team is officially in the win column for the 2019 season.

The Rams swept Newington 25-22, 25-20, 25-13 thanks to 12 kills by Emily Ericson and eight more by Kathryn Ross, who also added three solo blocks on the front line.

Newington was led by Madison Massaro-Cook, who logged 11 digs, seven kills and two blocks, while Julia Germano shined defensively with a team-high 15 digs.

The Rams’ three-game road trip to start the season concludes Wednesday at Lewis Mills before the team hosts its home opener against Conard on Friday evening.

Southington 3, Tolland 0: The Blue Knights moved to 2-1 on the season behind a dominant sweep of Tolland (25-8, 25-12, 25-10) on Monday afternoon, thanks in large part to Brooke Coney’s 13 kills and three service aces. Victoria Zajda led the way in assists with 19, while Mackenzie Coppola added 13 of her own to go along with her four aces from the serving line.
