Bristol Central cross country's Petrosky breaks own two-year-old course and school records

BRISTOL - Bristol Central’s Mark Petrosky broke his own two-year-old course and school records as he placed first overall in a cross country tri-meet on Tuesday at Rockwell Park.

Petrosky finished in 17:47.85, beating the mark of 17:52.1 he set in 2017.

Competing against Plainville and Platt, the Rams took seven of the first 10 places.

Jose Ramirez placed second (19.10), Ben Stafford was third (19:36), Leo Kavanaugh was fourth (19.48), Christopher Roy came in sixth (20:13), Austin Freve was seventh (20:26) and Reggie Gonzalez came in ninth (21:27).

Plainville had three runners in the top 10: Jeremy Courtar (5th, 20:03), Brody Davidson (8th, 20:36) and Justin DeBellis (10th, 22:11).

In the girls’ race, Bristol Central took the top five places and six of the top 10.

Natalia Popielarz came in first at 22:22, Natalie Dube was second in 24:22, Isabella Crandall was third in 25:09, Mia Clement placed fourth in 25:23, Katherine Funk came in fifth in 25:32 and Marisa Heller was seventh in 26:40.

For Plainville, Emily Roy placed sixth (26:03), Emma Lopez was eighth (29:25), Allie Chambrello came in ninth (29:33) and Teagan Russell was 10th (30:43).

Bristol Central opened its season in last Thursday’s Blue Dragon Invitational in Middletown, placing second as a team in combined boys and girls varsity times.

Top finishers for the boys included Mark Petrosky (4th, 16:44.35), Nate DeAngelo (6th, 17:04.98), Jose Ramirez (10th, 17:38.92), Ben Stafford (14th, 17:56.18) and Frankie Porrini (18th, 18:11.98).

The best finishes for Bristol Central’s girls were Natalia Popielarz (10th, 21:17.11), Natalie Dube (20th, 22:39.94), Bella Crandall (29th, 23:17.33), Katie Funk (47th, 24:09.34) and Mia Clement (53rd, 24:30.71).

Terryville has top runners: The Terryville cross country teams competed against Nonnewaug and Gilbert on Tuesday and had the top runners in both races.

For the boys, Chris Deforest placed first (17:40), C.J. Hart was third (18:44), Conor Garrity was fifth (19:01) and Nick Zappone was seventh (19:44). Other finishers for Terryville included Ryan O’Donnell (11th, 21:30), Jacob Collette (15th, 22:59), Robbie Pedersen (16th, 24:31), Tyler Grabowski (18th, 24:46) and Zach Holt (20th, 28:39).

The Kangaroos beat Nonnewaug 19-36 and topped Gilbert, 21-34.

Terryville’s Katie Deforest won the girls’ race in 22:14. Teammate Madeline Bell came in seventh at 27:21, while Elizabeth King was 10th in 29:34. Other runners for Terryville included Emma Plourde (11th, 30:17) and Emily Krysiuk (12th, 30:18).
