An impressive season for the Bristol co-op boys swim team continued at the Class LL state finals Monday night, as the local squad earned a 12th place finish overall.
Leading Bristol in the event were sophomores Gabe Bartolome and Colton Litwinczyk, each of whom advanced to the State Open on Thursday at Yale.
Bartolome qualified for the Open in the 200 individual medley, finishing the race in 2:00.31 for an 11th place finish that garnered 16 points.
Litwinczyk qualified in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:01.06, finishing in eighth place with 21 points.
Bristol’s 200 medley relay (Bartolome, Litwinczyk, Mikel Palaj and Benjamin Stafford) finished 10th with a time of 1:44.33 to become the first alternate for the Open.
Also qualifying a first alternate for the Open is the 400 medley relay of the same foursome, which also finished 10th with a time of 3:30.16.
The individual performances of Bartolome and Litwinczyk, plus the two relay teams, accounted for 103 of the squad’s 181 points in the meet.
In the 200 freestyle, freshman Palaj finished 15th with a time of 1:49.08, and in the 500 freestyle he finished 13th with a time of 4:57.27.
Litwinczyk finished 14th in the 200 medley at 2:03.94, while Bartolome finished 14th in the 100 breaststroke at 1:01.60.
Bristol’s 200 freestyle relay (Timofei Pechenin, Jake Mendocha, Noah Taylor and Stafford) finished 15th with a time of 1:38.86.
Bristol finished close to a top-10 finish behind Trumbull (190 points) and Newtown (211).
Thursday’s State Open races begin at 7 p.m. at Yale.
