BRISTOL - The Bristol Eastern wrestling team won the Bristol Central Invitational on Saturday, placing first in four different weight classes and scoring 207 points.
Southington, which had one weight class champion, placed second as a team with 199 points. Bristol Central was eighth with 82 points, while Berlin was 10th with 59 points, Plainville was 12th with 52 points and Terryville was 17th with 22 points.
Berlin’s Daniel Veleas was named Outstanding Wrestler for the event, after winning four straight matches at 145 pounds and then beating Southington’s Jacob Cardozo by a 4-2 decision in the championship match.
Winning their weight classes for the Lancers were Trent Thompson (106), Justin Marshall (152), Dylan Garcia (182) and Trinidad Gonzalez (220). Tom Nichols (132) and Nick St. Peter (heavyweight) each came in second; Eric Dupee (101), Mason Lishness (113) and Noah Piazza (160) all came in third; Carson Sassu (126) placed fourth; and Aaron Morocho (126) and Logan Morelli (195) were each fifth.
While Caleb Chesanow (195) was the only weight champion for Southington, Caleb Brick (120), Dawsen Welch (138), Cardozo (145) and Billy Carr (170) all placed second.
Also, Jason Brault (152) and Jacob Vecchio (220) both placed third, while Ben Gorr (113), Darius Mangiafico (132), Matt Jacobsen (182) and Sam McCarty (heavyweight) were all fifth.
Will Hamilton (106), Jakob Salinas (195) and Eric Facey (heavyweight) all placed third for Bristol Central, while Jake Aldi (120) came in fifth and Andrew Beaucar (152) was sixth.
Leading the way for Plainville were Dominic Pedrolini (3rd, 126), Alex Hernandez (4th, 160), Jona Alvarado (5th, 101) and Ty Pales (6th, 182).
Terryville’s Caleb Leclerc placed fourth at 145 pounds.
