BRIDGEPORT - The first round of the state tournament ended a season for some, but for others, such as the Bristol Central girls soccer team, will move on.
The 25th-seeded Rams shut out and upset No. 8 Bullard Havens Tech 13-0 Monday afternoon in the Class L state tournament.
Bristol Central had a total of nine different goal scorers, including a track trick by Mia Santilli. Ashlee Crumrine, Bella Bosco and Hannah Aldieri each netting two, while Adalia Malick and Morgan Patnode each scored once.
The Rams will now travel to No. 9 Naugatuck (11-3-3) on Wednesday for a 3 p.m. start.
Lauralton 3, Bristol Eastern 2: The Lancers fought hard, but Molly Rotondo scored the winning goal for Lauralton in the 58th minute to knock Bristol Eastern out of the Class L state tournament.
The score was tied 2-2 at the half thank to a goal from Sara Stadnicki on a pass from Leah Policarpio and another by Ciara Collins.
Ava Gilbert made 13 saves. The Lancers finish the season 7-6-3.
Bristol Central 3, Sacred Heart Academy 0: The Rams are moving on in the Class L state tournament. Central swept the Sharks in set scores of 25-12, 25-11 and 25-13. Kathryn Ross led the team with 12 kills, while teammate Jayden Bauer had eight. Emily Ericson also had seven kills and one block, while Amanda Warner had 19 digs, four aces. Taylor Patnode also recorded 16 assists.
The Rams will travel to No. 8 East Lyme for the second round on Wednesday.
