BRISTOL - Erin Petke had one goal this season.

“Well my goal was to break the school record and I did that today,” Petke said. “Now it’s just trying to get a higher score and try to increase my degree of difficulty.”

Tuesday afternoon, the diver not only claimed first place and a new personal record, but she also broke the school record for the second time in the last two years.

Petke finished the afternoon with a score of 202.45, shattering her previous and school’s record of 187.

“It makes me feel pretty good,” Petke said. “I didn’t know that, that was going to happen and they told me and I’m just so excited.”

Petke wasn’t always a diver. The senior was on the Bristol Central cheerleading team her freshman year but when she suffered an injury to her shoulder Petke was out on the junior varsity team.

“They said that I was a setback for everyone so I decided to join the swim team,” Petke said. “But I didn’t really know how to swim so they taught me how to dive and I love it.”
