Sports Roundup: St. Paul baseball loses season finale against Holy Cross

BRISTOL - In the season finale matchup between the St. Paul and Holy Cross baseball teams, the Falcons held a 3-0 lead going into the bottom of the seventh inning.

St. Paul starting pitcher Ethan Rembish struck out the first batter he faced in the seventh continuing the stellar first six shutout innings he pitched.

After the first out Rembish would struggle.

He allowed two singles and a double before getting pulled in the seventh for Julian Thayer, who entered the game with a 3-2 lead.

Thayer intentionally walked Connor Goggin and then Goggin and Fran Phelan advanced to second and third on a passed ball.

Brian Parzyck scored Phelan on an infield single to tie the game 3-3. Following his single Parzcyk advanced to second on a passed ball.

Thayer intentionally walked Corey Fappiano to load the bases for Austin Brown, who ended the game with a walk-off infield single.

With the loss St. Paul concluded its regular season schedule with a 15-5 record.

SOFTBALL

Seymour 10, St. Paul 2: Sierra Cripps powered the Wildcats to a win over the Falcons. She had the only home run in the game and added three hits.

With the loss St. Paul finished its regular season 17-3.

TRACK

The Bristol Central boys and girls track teams competed at the CCC Froshmore Championship.

For the boys there were three first place finishers.

Ramon Ambert set a meet record in the 400 meter race with a time of 52.59.

The 4x100 meter team of Kiran Siriwardene, Calvin Neal, Ambert and Galen Hickey was first with a time of 45.57.

Rounding out the first place finishers were the 4x800 meter team consisting of Leo Kavanaugh, Nate Deangelo, Austin Freve and Ben Stafford. They finished with a time of 8:50.87.

Kavanaugh (800 meters), Adam Jones (1600 meters) and Jakob Salinas (javelin) all had second place finishes.

Siriwardene (200 meters) and Luke Schilling (pole vault) had fourth place finishes.

Ethan Nieves, Jason Monckton, Jones and Alejandro Garcia-Rivera (4x400 meters) finished in fifth place.

Hickey (long jump) and Garcia-Rivera (300 hurdles) placed sixth.

For the Rams girls, Kaiya Alexander set a meet record in shot put with a throw of 35-10.75.

Natalia Popielarz, Isabella Crandall, Marisa Heller and Salvatrice Bosco (4x800 relay) and Gabriella Calfe (triple jump) had the other first place finishes for Bristol Central.

Abigail Calfe (long jump) had the only second place finish for the Rams.

Heller placed third in the 3200 meter race with a time of 13:58.29.

Gabrielle Calfe placed fourth in the 400 meter race with a time of 1:05.23.

Mia Hinton (400 meters) and Abigail Calfe (triple jump) had fifth place finishes.

Crandall (1600 meters) rounded out the day for Bristol Central with a sixth place finish.
