MERIDEN - The Bristol Central boys soccer team’s run in the Class L tournament was a short one.
The 18th-seeded Rams fell to No. 15 Maloney 2-0 Monday afternoon, knocking them out of the postseason in the first round for the third season in a row. Adilson Cardoso and Brian Brazel each scored for the Spartans.
“I just want to thank the seniors,” Bristol Central head coach Nate Jandreau said, “because we had a tremendous group of seniors that did things the right way and showed the younger players how things are supposed to be done. They set us up for success in the future, all nine of them. They deserved to get a win.”
The Rams found themselves down 1-0 at the half and couldn’t recover. They were outshot by the Spartans 11-8.
Alex Bernier saved six shots for Bristol Central in net as the Rams finished their season 8-7-2.
E.O. Smith 4, Bristol Eastern 0: Coming off of a qualifying round win, the Bristol Eastern boys soccer had a different opponent this time around facing No. 1 E.O. Smith.
With a pair of goals from Cooper Knecht, who scored the 100th goal of his career, the Lancers were outplayed by the undefeated E.O. Smith group.
“Smith moved the ball quickly and unselfishly as they got all 4 goals in the first half,” Bristol Eastern head coach Bill Sweet said. “We played hard throughout, but we were out-classed by a worthy number one seed.”
In net, Panthers keeper Dylan Pallanck had four saves and Bristol Eastern’s Tefoe made 11 saves.
The Lancers finish their season 6-8-4 while E.O. Smith continued its unbeaten season now at 17-0.
