BRISTOL - While new to the rivalry, Bristol Eastern girls volleyball freshman Zoe Lowe made sure that the Lancers win streak over Bristol Central.

“It’s really big,” Lowe said. “Especially it being my freshman year it was definitely the best. It was awesome and I couldn’t have asked for a better year.”

Lowe played the role of hero for Bristol Eastern and was a major presence at the net for the Lancers, finishing with 16 kills, one of which for the winning point coming on a set from teammate Aliana Rivoira.

In the same fifth set, Lowe also won three consecutive service points to propel Bristol Eastern to a 9-6 advantage in the set and eventually to the victory over the Rams 20-25, 25-22, 22-25, 25-20, 15-10.

“There was definitely a lot of pressure,” Lowe said. “But all the girls were there for me and helped me through it so I felt really confident”

Rivoira and Lowe hooked up throughout the match and the duo played a crucial role in the win. The playmaking ability of Rivoira showed on the stat sheet with 35 assists.

While not complaining about the win, Bristol Eastern coach Stacy Rivoira expected more from her group.

“I thought Bristol Central outplayed us point for point,” Rivoira said. “They served harder than us. They passed better than us. They hit better than us. They set better than us. They came ready to play and made tremendous progress throughout the year and they were really the better team today.”

For the Lancers, it was too close for their liking but going into the postseason coming off a close match should bode well for Bristol Eastern.

“I was frustrated by our inconsistencies which has been the story of our season,” coach Rivoira said. “I’m happy that we won. I’m glad the girls kept their composure. They could have very easily fallen apart and it could have gone the other way because they were putting pressure on us. But in the end we made the plays we needed to.”

With the win, the Lancers finished the regular season 11-7.
