MANCHESTER - The Bristol Central boys cross country team won the seeded race at Saturday’s Wickham Park Invitational, edging Northwestern by just two points in a tightly-contested event.
Northwestern’s top finisher placed ahead of Central’s top runner and its second-best runner was ahead of the Rams’ No. 2, but Bristol Central picked up 15 points on the back end of its five scoring finishes to edge Northwestern 169-171. The third place team from North Kingstown, R.I., was well behind with 192 points.
The top five for the Rams were Mark Petrosky (13th place, 17:20), Matt Roy (27th, 17:55), Devin Flores (32nd, 17:57), Pacifico Flores (42nd, 18:12) and Ben Stafford (55th, 18:26). Also racing for Bristol Central were Ian Kreciglowa (70th, 18:43) and Eric Knox (128th, 19:35).
“What a great day,” Rams coach Tamara Stafford-Kirk said. “We ran a hard workout Thursday and raced at Rockwell Tuesday, so I knew the kids would be racing tired. To have as many [personal records] as we did was awesome and the icing on the cake was the varsity boys’ victory in the seeded race and freshman Nate DeAngelo’s win in the JV race.”
The Bristol Central girls placed 26th in the event.
Racing for the Rams were Alex Sirko (77th, 23:05), Bella Crandall (109th, 23:55), Paige Hinton (117th, 24:10), Marisa Heller (125th, 24:52), Kristi Yurko (141st, 25:20) and Kiara Suazo (145th, 25:30).
