Children's Charities Tennis Classic closes out 39th annual tournament, Bristol natives Victoria Kilbourne and Colin Savino win mixed doubles

NEW BRITAIN - The 39th annual Children’s Charities Tennis Classic wrapped up play on Sunday afternoon, finishing off a weekend of strong play.

The final day of the classic saw play in three doubles divisions: mixed, girls and young adult.

Victoria Kilbourne and Colin Savino of Bristol took the mixed doubles crown, defeating Timmy Davenport of Farmington and Juju Oliver of New Britain in the finals match 7-5, 6-2. In the girls doubles championship, the team of Elyssa Tomczyk and Coral Tommervik of Plainville beat the Newington High School team of Maura Klin and Elizabeth Taschuk 6-1, 6-0.

The young adult doubles division wrapped up the afternoon. Of the six teams that participated, the duo of Mike Rabiej and Keith Lebel of Plantsville/Southington took first place with Ryan Fuffo and Sean Davis of Newington capturing second.

 While the Children’s Charities Tennis Classic had a number of strong play, it also helped raise funds for the pediatric autism center at the Hospital for Special Care.

“I am very grateful to all the players, sponsors, and my committee for a very successful tournament this year,” said Don Lukowski, the chairman and founder of the event. “Thanks to all involved, we have been able to raise a little over $6,000 to date for the pediatric autism center at the Hospital for Special Care. Thanks to all involved we will be able to do much to better the lives of those young patients at the hospital.”
